07 Jun ADAS component replacement — GM strengthens its position

Repairer Driven News has reported that General Motors has revised its ADAS position statement, strengthening its wording around ADAS component replacement and the use of non-GM parts. GM now states that the use of salvaged, recycled,  reconditioned, remanufactured, aftermarket, or other secondary-market ADAS radars, cameras, sensors, or related components is not approved by GM.

ADAS repairs are not only about calibration at the end of a repair. Component origin, mounting location, structural alignment, software, system integration, and the use of OEM-approved procedures may all affect whether the system can perform as intended.

Where ADAS-related components have been damaged, replaced, removed, refitted, or recalibrated, Repair Certifiers should check the latest OEM information and ensure the Repair Certification File includes appropriate evidence of the parts used, the repair method followed, and any required calibration or system checks.
