16 Aug Australian industry identifies significant ADAS and EV repair gaps

Australia’s Mining and Automotive Skills Alliance has published a summary of an industry consultation on electric vehicles and ADAS in body repair.

Participants identified ADAS training as an urgent skills gap, noting that much of the currently available training is limited to general awareness rather than specialist diagnosis and calibration. Other concerns included restricted access to OEM training and information, equipment and facility costs, inconsistent licensing requirements, uncertainty over liability and limited consumer understanding of calibration requirements. The report records the views raised through the consultation and does not necessarily represent formal Alliance policy.

The issues closely reflect those facing the New Zealand repair industry. Repair Certifiers may need to verify that the repairer or calibration provider has suitable training, equipment, facilities, vehicle-specific information and evidence to support the work completed.
