I-CAR has published information on a two-point, three-position method for checking a solid axle housing for deformation following a collision.
Damage to an axle housing can be difficult to diagnose and may not be resolved through normal wheel-alignment adjustment. The checking method is intended to help identify whether the housing itself has become distorted.
Why this matters for Repair Certifiers
Where wheel alignment results remain outside specification, or where there is evidence of impact loading through a wheel or axle, the axle housing and its mounting structure may require further measurement. A wheel alignment report alone may not establish that the underlying structural or mechanical damage has been corrected.
