I-CAR RTS has also included a “Back-to-Basics” item on squeeze-type resistance spot welder maintenance. The RTS listing notes that STRSW maintenance is essential to ensure the welder functions correctly.
This is a useful reminder that even if the correct repair procedure has been identified, the equipment used to carry out the repair must still be suitable, correctly set up, maintained, and capable of producing an acceptable repair.
Why this matters for Repair Certifiers:
Where welding is part of a repair, the Repair Certifier should be satisfied that the repairer had the correct equipment, settings, access, test welds, and supporting evidence for the work carried out.
