16 Aug Honda reinforces the importance of identifying ultra-high-strength steel
Guidance from Honda explaining where repairers can find information about ultra-high-strength steel in Honda and Acura body repair information.
Current Honda and Acura platforms include steel with tensile strengths of up to 1500 MPa. Honda advises that ultra-high-strength steel must not be heat-straightened or cold-straightened and that damaged components must be replaced in accordance with the applicable model-specific body repair and welding instructions.
Why this matters for Repair Certifiers
A component that appears visually repairable may be designated replacement-only because of its material grade, location, or role within the crash-management structure. The material and tensile strength must be established before a repair-versus-replacement decision is made.
