I-CAR has examined Audi and Volkswagen repair information for situations where a dedicated step-by-step replacement procedure is not provided for a particular component.
The manufacturers’ general body repair information may allow the original joining method to be identified and recreated using the replacement component at the original factory seams. However, all applicable vehicle-specific requirements, material
restrictions, joining instructions and corrosion-protection procedures must s till be followed.
Why this matters for Repair Certifiers
The absence of a dedicated procedure does not automatically mean that a component cannot be replaced—but it also does not provide permission to invent a repair method. The complete vehicle manufacturer information must be reviewed to determine whether a compliant replacement method can be established.
